I was reading an email from Missouri Dept of Insurance, talking about insurance check ups on auto and home, among other topics. I'm focusing here on homeowners and Earthquake. It specifically read...... Traditional homeowners' insurance policies do not cover earthquake damage and many consumers overestimate the help FEMA will provide should a major earthquake damage their home. Under FEMA's Individual Assistance Program, the MAXIMUM grant is $32,900.
That is it.......
Meaning $32,900 is it for damage to home, additional living expense and damage to personal property. I've touched on this in many conversations with clients and that is if you have a mortgage you can bet your lender will NOT forgive your debt if your home has turned into rubble. Perhaps there will be low interest loans available; however, these are loans not grants. So the tip is add earthquake to protect your valuable asset, if you don't...... it's simply your own fault.
