Property and Casualty mean separate things. Property insurance provides protection against most risks to tangible property from losses like auto collision, fire, flood, earthquake, theft and other perils. Casualty protects for LIABILITY. Auto and Homeowners each provide liability. So auto and Home includes both property and casualty. Further property examples would be a car, boat, motorcycle, Recreational Vehicle, house, personal property etc. A loss to any of these items is Property.
A Casualty loss can be caused by a property item, such as a car hitting another car. An auto insurance policy could be a Casualty policy if it's Liability only on a car and an auto policy could be property and casualty if it provides full coverage. When a driver is responsible for damage to another car's damage and medical expenses this would fall under Casualty portion.
These terms are not used as frequently as they were back in earlier days of insurance.
