More and more auto insurance companies are offering new and existing policyholders an opportunity to further reduce cost of their auto insurance by inserting a tracking device for set period of time to determine how safe the driver is. I am speaking of two companies: SAFECO and PROGRESSIVE who monitor 4 items to determine a discount of 5-25%, the items measured are time of day car is driver, total mileage driven, braking and acceleration.
Safeco's program is called Right Track and is only a 90 day testing period, they provide an up front 5% discount for trying then allow up to 30% discount. If a driver does not jack rabbit start, does not brake hard(which usually indicates following to closely), does not operate car between midnight and 4 a.m. and does not drive too many miles the discount will be applied for the life of the policy.
Progressive requires a 6 month testing period with their program called Snapshot.
These discounts are becoming more popular. At the beginning of these products many policy holders rejected fearing to much information; however, folks understand that a simple cell phone already tracks a person's location and time of day at the various locations.
If you would like a discount be sure and ask the Flanigan Insurance Agency(314-727-6000) about these opportunities to save on your car insurance and will be happy to explain further.
