A recent homeowner experienced mold in the attic. The question any insurance claims office will ask/look for when visit the site is WHERE did the mold come from/HOW did mold get to where it is? My guess, since I am not a claims adjuster or attorney, is if the mold simply grew due to moist condition in a home there simply will be no coverage. On the other hand, if the mold is the result of another covered loss then most likely it would be covered.
An example of another covered loss causing the presence of mold would be, tree falling on roof during wind/rain storm and mold grows due to water, humidity etc. Another example of covered loss may be, a water pipe suddenly/accidentally breaks and water has travelled throughout the house causing mold. This is what is meant by a covered loss triggering the growth of mold.
This is my opinion and does not constitute any coverage to any policy form. If you would like more information or homeowner quote please contact the Flanigan Insurance agency @ 314-727-6000 or email at dflanflanins@yahoo.com.
