The world keeps changing, innovations are everywhere. Golf Carts used to simply be used on golf courses only, now they are used by people in communities as transportation. When it comes to accident's with damages to property, injuries to passengers do not expect your homeowner policy to automatically protect you. Some companies will permit adding as a scheduled item to home policy, others require a separate Motorcycle form policy to provide the liability and damage to cart coverage.
Another item becoming popular is the evolution of the bike, specifically electric bikes. Electric bikes, often called ebikes, can be manually or motorized down the roadways. This is where homeowner companies may NOT provide coverage. Most homeowner companies specifically EXCLUDE motorized land vehicles unless used to specifically service the premise i.e. riding lawn mower. Once motorized land vehicles have left the yard/premise then you are on your own not only for liability but also theft. The value of the ebikes are often $2000-$4000 and theft is the #1 loss reported.
Bike policies are available or an ebike can be placed on a Motorcycle policy, like a scooter, ATV, Golf Cart, go cart etc. Due to popularity of the ATV's and all the optional equipment such as: winches, trailers, doors, lighting, riding apparel it is certainly better to take out Motorcycle policy to protect these toys.
