Last month a homeowner, with a sump pump, had a large tree take out power lines no damage to his home's exterior. While power was out for 20 hours during all day rain in Saint Louis the sump pump well filled up and over flowed causing water all over the recently finished basement new wood floor. The entire basement wood floor had to me removed and thrown out. Client's homeowner policy provided $15,000 sewer/sump back up protection. With the power outage the sump pump failed due to not having a battery backup, what a mess indeed. Good news/Bad news. The good news is fortunately they had $15,000 sewer back up the bad news $15,000 wasn't enough and they should have had a battery backup.
Many insurance companies offer more than $15,000 sewer back up, be sure and let your agent know if need more coverage. If have further questions, please contact Flanigan Insurance at dflanflanins@yahoo.com or 314-727-6000.
